Chapter 11 Flashcards

1
Q

Water Pollution

A

Human and animal waste pollute water -> boiling water eliminates contaminants. BUT Chemical contaminants from industrial activities cannot be boiled because they are not alive or volatile.

Safe Drinking Water Act: EPA determines that water providers cannot have more than 100 biological and chemical contaminants

Q

What are the 4 types of intermolecular forces?

A

1.) Dispersion: Movement of Electrons in a Molecule. (Weakest and depends on surface area)

2.)Dipole-Dipole: Polar Molecules have a strong IMF because + & - poles attract

3.) Hydrogen Bond: Hydrogen Bonds with Nitrogen, Oxygen, and Flourine (Strongest)

4.) Ion - Dipole: Ionic bond breaks down and bonds with a covalent molecule (Strong)
