Who were sympathetic to the church and who wanted reform?
sympathetic - nobility and the clergy
Reform - gentry and the layman
Who would want Henry as a minister?
Someone that aligned with his views and someone of skill and not status therefore that way he had control over them
Why did Thomas More disagree with the King?
Because he did not support Church reform just because the king wanted a divorce and he was more sympathetic to Catherine of Aragon

Act of Supremacy - Henry made head of the church

Declared that the monarch possessed an imperial jurisdiction which was not subject to any foreign power

Charles V and Francis I buried their differences at the Treaty of Nice and severed connections with England

A major rebellion as Kildare had been dismissed

Because he wanted to have Ireland under English control and it was costly so failed as it was a drain on the crowns resources
How can Henrys lack of intervention in Europe due to Ireland be seen as?
Because Ireland was closer to home and it was also very costly on the crowns resources
How did Henry establish greater control over Ireland by 1541?
Created a separate kingdom in 1541 imposing English law and creating counties out of Gaelic lordship

Government lacked resources to follow through reforms
there was no residual Irish loyalty to the English crown
