Gender
A social status that refers to differences between the sexes, specifically to differences in masculinity and femininity.
Gender Roles
Cultural concepts of masculinity and femininity that society creates around gender.
Sex
The biological and anatomical characteristic that differentiates male and female.
Beguines
Members of communes of seven or eight women who did not marry, who pursued such occupations as sewing, weaving, baking, and spinning.
Primary Labor Market
Jobs reserved for people who will advance to high-level positions.
Secondary labor market
The job positions that pay poorly, have less job security and little to no chances of advancement.
Comparable worth (jobs)
Evaluating and rewarding different occupations equally if work in each occupation requires the same level of ability and is of equal value to the employer.

Power accepted as legitimate by those it affects
Autonomy
The ability to decide how work will be done.
Women’s movement
A Social movement to gain women’s political and economic equality.
Feminization of poverty
An increase in the proportion of women below poverty line, particularly women head of households.

Sexual advances by a coworker or superior at work
