Grand Council
Who/What: equivalent to a modern day council
Where: China
When:600-900, 7th through 10th centuries
Significance: reps from civil, military, censorate.
Khanates
Who/What: smaller pieces of previous empire of Genghis Khan. each was under independent rule, by one of Genghis Khan’s sons.
Where: The empire of Genghis Khan, which was central Asia.
When: by early 13th cent.
Significance: this redivision of smaller independent areas happened after China was conquered by the mongols.
Mongols
Who/What: succeeded the song as rulers of china
Where: china, India, SW Asia,
When: height is 13th century
Significance: They controlled the greatest empire to ever exist. It spread over all of asia and into the middle east and europe. They primarily used cavalry to fight and they set up a tributary system to aid in success.
Tang Dynasty
Who/What: Ruling dynasty in china
Where: China
When: late 6th to early 10th century.
Significance: flowering of chinese culture. Buddhist monasteries encouraged creativity in poetry and sculpture.
Yang Jian
Who/What: emperor of the Sui Dynasty
Where: China
When: founded Sui dynasty in 581 (when did he live? Which should I use? Book doesn’t give when he was alive, can I say 6th century?)
Significance: Founded the Sui dynasty, which unified China after nearly 4 centuries of internal division.
