Chapter 10 Flashcards
What is prompting ? What are prompts ? What is fading ?
Prompting- is used to increase the correct behavior at the correct time(meant to remove the prompt)
Prompt- supplemental antecedent stimulus, the prompt is not the Sd It attracts attention to the SD (prompt should not have stimulus control over behavior only this Sd
Fading- gradually remove the prompt
List and briefly describe each of the 4 types of response prompts?
Response prompt- (least to most intrusive)
1 verbal
2 gestural
3 modeling
4 physical
Why is it important to always start with the least intrusive type of response prompt?
So that the learner engages in the correct behavior without the prompt so that the natural SD has stimulus control over the behavior
Explain “transfer of stimulus control”.
the end results of transfer of stimulus control is that the correct behavior occurs at the right time without any assistance
List and briefly describe the 3 techniques used to ensure transfer of stimulus control occurs.
Prompt fading –
1 fading within prompts(One prompt , saying less and giving hints over time within the prompt)
2 fading across prompts (multiple prompts, least to most prompting and fading(starting with verbal) , most to least prompting and fading(starting with physical)
Prompt delay- present SD then see if response occurs if not present prompt a couple minutes later
Stimulus fading- within stimulus prompt (bring it back to its natural form)
Extra stimulus prompt (gradually remove added stimulus)
Ex Gradually removing dotted line when teaching kids to trace a word
List the 7 guidelines for prompting and transferring stimulus control.
1 choose the most appropriate prompting strategy
2 get the learner’s attention
3 present the SD
4 prompt the correct response
5 reinforce the correct behavior
6 transfer stimulus control
7 continue to reinforce unprompted responses
