Define a behavioral chain.
a behavioral chain is a behavior that consists of multiple component responses that occur together in a sequence(All steps need to occur to get to target behavior)
Be able to provide examples of complex behaviors/behavioral chain.
Washing makeup off face
SD1 makeup on face —> R1 walk into bathroom
SD2 sight of sink —> R2 turning on faucet
SD3 faucet is on —-> R3 put hands under faucet
SD4 hands are wet —-> R4 putting water on face
SD5 faces wet ——> R5 rub face with water
SD6 sight of face wash ——> R6 picking face wash up
SD7 face wash bottle in hand —> R7 squeeze face wash in hand
SD8 face wash in hand —-> R8 rub hand into face
SD9 soap on face —-> wash soap off
Reinforcement = Clean face
What are the 3 ways to conduct a task analysis?
1 observe A competent person engaging in task and record components
2 ask and expert To explain all components in the task
3 perform the task yourself and record each of the components
What are the differences between backward chaining and forward chaining?
Backward chaining, SD5 The last step is taught first. Used for long chains or subjects with severe disabilities
Forward chaining. The first component , SD1
List & briefly describe the 4 other types of chaining procedures discussed during the lecture.
Total task presentation. Complex behavior chain is taught in one single session, hand over hand guidance is often used, and shadowing, this is good when behavior chain is short or easy and for those with moderate disabilities
