Carbon monoxide
A gas, formed by incomplete combustion, that is colorless, odorless, and very poisonous. Chemical formula is CO.
Dead man switch
A switch that automatically shuts the tool off when the operator releases the control button.
Ear plugs
Hearing protection that fits inside the ear canal
Eyewash station
A safety station in a shop at which personnel can safely and easily flush their eyes.
Face shield
A shield, made from shatterproof plastic, that protects the entire face from debris and chemicals.
Fire extinguisher
A handheld device used to suppress fires.
Flashpoint
The lowest temperature at which a combustible material will produce an ignitable vapor.
Hazardous waste
Waste that is on the EPA’s list of hazardous material or has one or more of the following characteristics: ignitability, reactivity, corrosivity, and EP toxicity.
Headphone-type protector
Ear protection that surrounds the entire ear.
Hydrogen gas
Gas generated by batteries during charging. It combines with oxygen to form a highly explosive mixture.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
A government organization that establishes rules for safe work practices.
Respirator
A mask that fits over the mouth and nose to protect against the inhalation of hazardous materials.
Safety data sheet
A sheet containing detailed information about a chemical, including its ingredients and characteristics, the type of protective equipment that should be worn when working with the substance, and the procedures to follow in case of an accident.
Safety glasses
Glasses made from shatterproof plastic that protects the eyes from flying debris.
Safety google
Googles made from shatterproof plastic that fit tightly to the face, providing more complete protection than safety glasses.
