Communities need
good natural resources such as water, soil and trees.
Why do people settle in certain communities?
People that want to farm or be close to fresh fruit and vegetables live close to a community with rich soil. People that love to swim, fish or sail live in a community with plenty of water like lakes, rivers or an ocean. People that like fresh air, space and hiking live in places with many trees like forests. Trees also help in building homes, schools and stores.
Why do some people settle in a region with plenty of mountains?
Because of the activities. They can ski and sled in the winter and go camping, hiking or mountain climbing in the summer
Beach communities can be found…
near the shoreline. People can swim, sail surf and work in restaurants that serve fresh fish.
Why do some communities form near mineral resources such as coal or iron?
Because they are important resources and it means jobs can be found mining them.
What do communities do to honor the different cultures in it’s community?
They hold festivals, fairs and parades to educate, inform and honor these cultures
What happens to communities over time?
They change. They can either grow bigger or smaller depending on the needs of the country and the people.
