- consistent behavior patterns and interpersonal processes originating within the individual

-consistent patterns of behavior across time and situations

-take place between people

-includes emotional, motivational, and cognitive processes that go on inside of us that affect how we act/feel

Psychoanalytic Approach
-People’s unconscious minds are responsible for behavior differences
Humanistic Approach
-personal responsibility and feelings of self-acceptance are the key causes of personality differences
Biological Approach
-inherited predispositions and physiological processes explain personality differences
Trait Approach
-a continuum of various personality characteristics may explain personality differences
Behavior/Social Learning
-consistent behavior patterns are a result of conditioning/expectations
Cognitive Approach
-look at the differences in the way information is personally processed to explain behavior patterns
