what is the difference between archaeology and history
Archaeology is a search whereas history is a recollection of the past on the basis of narratives written by people of the past.
Archaeology is the study of events & all information is deducted on the basis of artifacts that are dug up.
History is merely rewriting events of the past with the help of narratives written by people of the past.
how was food an important ingredient for the development of civilization?
bcus people used to be nomads, they migrated from one place to another in order to find food. the start of agriculture allowed people to stay in one place and grow food there. this led to domestication of animals and people had more time since they didn’t need to gather and hunt for food anymore.

1) cities as administrative centers; was the beginning of government
2) belonging to a territory rather than family (simerian, egyptian)

why were the assyrians able to develop one of the first great empires?
they were one of the first to develop a large army which gave them military power. they also had good control over natural resources. the idea of mass deportation and using terror tactics discouraged rebellion
how did assyrians attempt to pacify conquered areas?
To pacify the lands they invade, the Assyrians take the indigenous people, move them someplace else, and bring others to take their place. Mass deportation discouraged rebellion.
how was the israelite religion different than surrounding religions
the israelite religion was monotheistic which meant they only believed in one god, while the other religions were polytheistic, they believed in multiple gods/goddesses

Phoenicia had a lot of sea power as they were along the coast. Phoenicians were the major naval and trading power of the region.

darius divided the empire into about 20 provinces, each under the supervision of a persian governor

The polis was most efficient if it was small. Greek geography helped keep communities small. Covered with mountains, it provided many natural barriers that isolated neighboring communities.
