the two groups have political differences.
The sunnis recognize the heirs of the four caliphs as the religious leaders.

though muslims share a theological unity. describe 2 factors that made it difficult for them to maintain a caliphate or political unity
there are 2 main branches of islam sunnis and shiites. they are argue on who should be in control. the difference of languages has also divided the Muslims by the lack of communication.
