Nationalism
Devotion and loyalty to one’s own nation (patriotism)
Nation state
Country; has a physical border and government (based on civic/ethnic nationalism or BOTH)
Internationalism
Cooperation among nations for the promotion of their common good (refers to interactions between countries and nation states - political, social, or Economical)
Ultranationalism
Extreme devotion to a nation
Supranationalism
When countries agreed to abide by the decisions of an international organization
Multinationalism
Involving several nations
Nation
a) people who feel a sense of belonging together
b) people who might want to control their own destiny/future
c) or might not have official borders and government
d) community that we all imagine together
e) defined by geographical or physical borders
f) expresses the soul of the people
Ethnic
People who Jared common characteristics are just raised cultural language and nation, because they share the same common ancestors
Self determination
The power to control one’s own affairs
National self-determination
Power of people within a nation state or nation, to make their own decisions about what is in their interest
Sovereignty
Political authority to control one’s own affairs (can conflict with self-determination)
Collective
Group of people who share common national identity, including cultural, linguistic, historical or territorial ties
Civic nation
Nation created by people, no matter ethnicity, culture and language, who agreed to live, according to particular values, and beliefs, expressed as the rule of law
Patriotism
A feeling of love and devotion to one’s own country or nation
Ethnic nationalism
When people share a common ethnic history, through generations, in terms of ethnic origins, and birth
