You must develop a range of language skills in order to make appropriate interpreting choices
What are the five linguistic registers for an interpreter?
Frozen, formal, consultative, informal/casual, and intimate. being able to have this tool can help you better interpret depending on the setting.
How does communicating work?
Communication happens between two or more individuals who may share cultural, experiential, and linguistic backgrounds, or may have nothing in common.
How are messages constructed?
Using speech/signs, affect and nonverbal communicative elements. Also by being influenced on where they are (location) and what is the overall goal.
When an interpreter is listening to the message, what is happening in the process?
The interpreter takes the information and analyzes the source and then conveys the overall goal/intent of the message.
Communication is?
Complex and imprecise, linked to culture, principles on how relationships are formed, constructed message, transactional (depending on where you are).
