Leadership Attributes
Tell people to accomplish a task

Make people want to achieve goals and objectives
A Leader
Leaders can be effective only to the extent that others are willing to accept their leadership.

Has to be both a leader and a follower
A fire officer
Iron hand approach. Used when the fire officer needs to maintain high personal control of the group.
Autocratic Leadership
Consultative approach. Used when planning a project, developing a daily work plan, planning meals. Can be used when TRT is approaching a difficult type of rescue. Execution of plan often involves autocratic command style.
Democratic Leadership
Free-rein style. Effective when working with experienced fire fighters and handling Routine duties.
Laissez-faire leadership
Legitimate power, Reward power, expert power, feferent power, coercive power
French and Raven’s power types.
The target person believes that the agent has the right to make the request and that the target person has the obligation to comply.
Legitimate Power
The target person complies to obtain rewards believed to be controlled by the agent.
Reward Power
The target person complies due to a belief that the agent has special knowledge.
Expert Power
The target complies due to admiration of or identification with the agent and seeks approval.
Referent Power
The target person complies to avoid punishment believed to be controlled by the agent.
