Four basic tasks of a fire officer
Supervisor, Commander, Trainer
Three roles of a fire officer
Functions as a rep of the fire chief, issues orders and directives, follows rules and regulations.
Supervisor
Functions as the commander at the scene of an emergency incident
Commander
The fire officer is responsible to the skill, confidence, and competence of the fire fighters under his or her command
Trainer
Develop a personal training library, know the neighborhood, use problem solving scenarios
Three recommendations to assist fire officers
A complex system of attributes that determine moral and ethical actions and reactions. Demonstrate behaviors by adhering to a moral code.
Integrity
Includes making decisions and modeling behavior consistent with the department’s core values, mission statement, and value statements.
Ethical Behavior
EEOC enforces civil rights in the workplace. Correct behaviors that require immediate corrective actions. failure to act is likely to create a liability and a loss for the department.
Workplace diversity
Unwanted, uninvited, and unwelcome attention and intimacy in a non-reciprocal relationship
