Chapter 0 Flashcards
An exact portion of a sample or total amount of a liquid
Aliquot
A substance whose chemical constituents are being identified and measured
Analyte
A solution of anything in water
Aqueous
A regression model used to predict the unknown concentrations of analytes of interest based on the response of the instrument to the known standards
Calibration curve
A representative sample prepared from a heterogeneous material. If the material consists of distinct regions, the composite is made of proportions of each region, with relative amounts proportional to the size of each region
Composite sample
The process of pouring away a liquid while leaving a solid (often a precipitate) behind
Decant
A mixture in which the composition is not uniform throughout the mixture
Heterogeneous
A mixture in which the composition is uniform throughout the mixture
Homogeneous
Occurs when a species other than analyze increases or decreases the response of the analytical method and makes it appear that there is more or less analyze than is actually present
Interference
The transformation of an interfering species into a form that is not detected
Masking
A branch of chemistry that deals with the identification of elements or grouping of elements present in a sample
Qualitative analysis
Any method used for determining the amount of a chemical in a sample
Quantitative analysis
A solution or a mixture containing several solid particles that are not dissolved is to be passed on from one container to another without losing even a small particle present in it
Quantitative transfer
A material where there are differences in composition occur randomly and on a fine scale
Random heterogeneous material
Collected by taking portions from the desired number of segments chosen at random
Random sample
