Focusing Stage of Writing
topics clear, plan apparent, sense of audience, minimal variety of sentence patterns and vocabulary, errors interrupt flow.
Experimenting Stage of Writing
Topic clear and developed. Clear plan with beginning, middle, and end. Written for an audience, experiments with language and sentence patterns, Errors interrupt flow
Engaging Stage of Writing
Topic well developed. Clear beginning, middle, end. Engages the reader, effective use of varied vocabulary and sentence patterns. Errors do not interfere with flow or meaning.
Extending Stage of Writing
Topic fully elaborated with rich details. Organization sustains the writer’s purpose and moves reader through piece. Engages and sustains reader’s interest. Creative and novel use of language effective and varies use of sentence patterns. errors do not interfere with meaning.
