Chap 9: The Sensory System Flashcards
What is the function of the pupil?
Lets light into the eye
What is the Iris?
The colored part of the eye
What is the function of the Iris?
Controls the amount of light entering the eye
What is the lens?
The area directly behind the pupil
What is the function of the lens?
Focuses light on the retina
What is the retina?
The part around the jelly-like fluid
What is the function of the retina?
Absorbs light which allows us to see
What is the optic nerve?
The nerve coming from the back of the eye
What is the function of the optic nerve?
Carries messages from the eye to the brain (sensory nerve)
What is the cornea?
The see-through part at the front of the eye
What is the function of the cornea?
Allows light to enter the front of the eye
What is the ciliary muscle?
The muscle at the side of the front of the eye
What is the function of the ciliary muscle?
Changes the shape of the lens
What are the sense organs and their senses?
Eye-sight Ear-hearing Nose-smell Skin-touch Tongue-taste
What is a sensory nerve?
A nerve that carries messages from the sensory organ to the brain
