Q

Tether straps

A

Attach to high pressure hose either before or after hose is attached
It is recommend that units pre attach the tether strap to high pressure hose and store together as a unit

Q

High pressure pumping is defined as

A

Operating at a discharge pressure over 250
Notify IC when high pressure pumping is necessary
All engines including conventional are capable of high pressures over 250 (conventional engines only under emergency and ordered by IC)

Q

When high pressure or 3 rd stage engines operate at high pressures the following precautions should be taken

A
  1. Must use there high pressure supply hose and fittings (painted white and noticeable heavier ) conventional engines do not have
  2. Whenever possible an engine supplying higher pressure should be positioned within 1 hose length of FD connection being supplied (max two lengths of high pressure supply hose )
  3. Safety zone on each side engine and high pressure supply hose (50’ in all directions around engine and hose )
  4. All unused gates and outlets must be closed and capped
  5. Each engine operating at high pressure must be controlled by ECC ( monitor pumps)and assisted by ECC from non- operating pumper (monitor radio communications) . Other ECCS from non-pumping engines shall assist in keeping persons out of safety zone
  6. Supply lines must be secured with tether straps or utility rope (Secured to both the engine and to the building fire department connection)
More than one length supply line hose must be tethered together
7 stairwells served by standpipes used for high pressure pump ops should not be used for staging or rest areas
  7. Preset pressure on apparatus (PPG) should not be used charge standpipe (increase pressure slowly)
9 should be supplied by Two engines (2 different Siamese ) can use first floor outlet
