Chap 9 Flashcards
Wet standpipe systems are
Systems that contain water at all times supplied by city main , gravity tank , pressure tank and or fire pump
The primary factors for installation of standpipe systems is
Height and area of building
Dry standpipe systems are
Can be equipped with automatic source supply but many contain no water and only supply if from FD pumpers ( manual dry)
Combo systems
Consists of sprinklers interconnected with standpipe
Most are wet systems
Must be augmented
When can a engine company use the occupant hose ?
Never
Note: ladder or rescues company’s may use occupant hose if operating remote from engine companies while performing searches , may be justified in attempt to save lives
Red cap or Siamese connection indicates
Standpipes
Green Siamese caps or connections Indicate
Automatic sprinkler
Aluminum Siamese connection
Non-automatic or perforated pipe
Yellow Siamese connections
Combination sprinkler/standpipe
Standpipe system should always be supplied with 3 1/2 .t or f
True
Supplying standpipe
- Whenever possible supply standpipe with two different pumpers
2: whenever possible supply through two different connections - A separate engine supply standpipe for every hoes line placed in service
- If building has standpipe and sprinkle supply standpipe first .
Ecc supplying system must verify its attached to correct Siamese connection
If first engine supplying both sprinkler and standpipe than 2nd and 3 rd due must augment
What is included in the standpipe kit
2 1/2 " controlling nozzle 1 1/8 main stream. Tip and 1/2" outer Hand control wheels(s) 2 1/2 by 2 1/2 in line pressure gauge Pipe wrench minimum 18 " in length Spanner wrenches Door chocks Adapters 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 increaser
When supplying the standpipe system and encountering a PRD attached to the standpipe outlet can you use this outlet with PRD
Yes whether supplying or operating from a PRD it should be removed . If the PRD cannot be removed and no other outlet available without PRD than it is permissible to use the outlet with PRD
What should be done prior to connecting in-line pressure gauge to standpipe outlet
Flush standpipe system
Nozzle pressure should be adjusted by use of the hand wheel at the hose outlet and by observing the in line gauge . What are the correct psi for 3 and 4 length stretches
70 psi for 3 lengths
80 or 4 lengths
Note with water flowing
