Chap 5 rev. Flashcards
Alleles
Different forms of the same gene
Dominant allele
☕
allele that expresses the trait whenever it is present
Recessive allele
☕
allele that expresses the trait whenever the dominant allele is not present
Genotype
genetic composition of an Organism
Homozygous
both alleles form a gene, and they are the same
(both recessive or both dominant)
Heterozygous
one al =dom
one allele is dominant and the other one is recessive
Phenotype
physical appearance determined by genes
Mutagen
agent that causes genetic mutation
Monohybrid cross
male/female mate with regard to a 1 trait
Dihybrid cross
When male/female mate with regard to 2 traits
Autosome
chromosome that does not determine the sex of an individual
Pedigree
a record of ancestors for an individual showing parent/offspring relationship
(family tree)
Law of Independent Assortment
a🚗g
each allele for a trait moves into the gamete without influencing other alleles for other traits
Sex chromosomes
2 chromosomes that determine the sex of an individual
Sex-linked Disorder
a disorder caused by an allele found on the sex chromosome
