Chap 17 Flashcards
Trustworthiness
Credibility: measure of truth in a data and how it is interpreted
-Looks at a way of how a study is carried out and taking steps to dtermine credibility t o external readers
Dependability
relates to the ability of study findings to be repeated in similar circumstances
dependability before credability
Confimability
- making sure the data reflects a particpants view or voice rather than the researcher’s bias
Transferability
- the ability for results to further applied to other settings
Authenticity
- is the ability for resaders to get a true sense of a participants lived experience
Prolonged engagement
is the investment of sufficeint time needed
- support building rapport
Persistant observation
focus on charateristics or aspects of a situation that is relevant to phenomenon studied
REflexivity
to be minful of their own bias when collecting, analyzing data
- relfecting journal
- clearest strategy to address researcher bias
Traingulation
uses multiple refernce to draw conclusion to what consitiute to truth and overcome intrinsic bias
- Data: uses multiple sources and 3 factors, time, space, person
- method: gathering data through interviews, documents
Audit Trail
- creating a collection of raw data
methological notes, topic guides, drafts - allow another investigator to assist data and draw conclusions
Member check
- process of going back to study participants to describe themes identified to see if particpants agree
Investor triangulation
uses multiple researchers for data collection, coding, and anlaysis
Disconfimring cases
is a process of looking for evidence that contradict the themes identified
Negative case anlaysis
researchers search for evidence that contradict the findings so that their interpretation can be revised
Peer debriefing
- presents data to other experts. data probining occurs to see if there is any bias
Inquiry audit
occurs after an audit trail is performed a selective external reviewer examins for trustworthiness nad findings
Thick description
rich throrough vivid of the researcher context to study particpant in events and expereicne observed during inquiry
Researcher credibility
a reflection of qualifications expereinced and reflexivity of the researcher. it can be used in a study by describing a researcher study as well as any associations the researcher has with participants.
credibility is increased if any efforts to discuss reflexivity.
