Where a place is, for example, the coordinates on a map
What does the word locale mean?
Takes into account the effect that people have on their setting. In terms of locale, a place is shaped by the people, cultures and customs within it.
What does ‘sense of place’ mean?
This refers to the subjective and emotional attachment people have a place. This may be completely different when looked at from another’s perspective.

Conscious of, and loyalty to a distinct region with a population that shares similarities

Loyalty and devotion to a nation which creates a sense of national consciousness. Patriotism could be considered as an example of a sense of place.

The perspective of someone who knows a place well and is familiar with not only its topography but also its daily rhythms and events

The perspective of someone who doesn’t know a place well e.g. visitor or someone who is marginalised in a community such as the homeless or people from minority groups
