What is operant conditioning?
Suggests we learn through positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement and punishments.
What was the aim of Chaney’s study?
To investigate whether the new asthma device can provide positive reinforcement to improve adherence of using inhalers in young asthmatics.

32 participants- 22 males and 10 females

Age range= 1.5- 6 years (5 years)

Outline Chaney’s study procedure.
- Parents of asthmatic children contacted by phone by GP/ paediatrician
- Parents completed questionnaire about standard inhaler without knowledge of funhaler
- Participants used funhaler for 2 weeks under adult supervision
- Parents contacted occasionally in the 2 weeks to ask if funhaler was being used
- After 2 weeks, researcher visited parents in their home and they did same questionnaire.
