Ch.9 abdominal aorta Flashcards
Function of aorta
channel blood to organs and tissues to ensure oxygenation and metabolism
______ not present in arterial system
Valves
Location of abdominal aorta
left lateral to spine column
Most inferior branch of aorta (Can’t be seen on ultrasound)
medial sacral aorta (supplies sacrum)
left gastric artery (LGA)
courses left superiorly then right eventually anastomose with right gastric artery
Location of splenic artery (SA)
Left to supply spleen and branches into left gastroepiploic to supply stomach
Location of Common hepatic artery
Location of Proper hepatic artery (PHA)
Location of Superior mesenteric artery (SMA)
Anterior to aorta branches into inferioanterior pancreatic duodenal artery
Location of Suprarenal arteries
bilaterally from lateral aspect of aorta, horizontally to adrenal glands.
Location of gondola arteries
inferior to SMA and renal arteries.Anterior of aorta.Left side slightly superior to right side.
Location of inferior mesenteric artery (IMA)
3 branches of celiac
Left gastric, common hepatic artery and splenic artery
branches of proper hepatic
-right hepatic, middle hepatic ,left hepatic artery,
-cystic artery
-right gastric
Common hepatic branches into
Gastroduodenal artery and proper hepatic
Surgical connection between 2 structures usually tubular.
EX. blood vessels, loops of intestine
Anatomosis
Splenic artery supplies
spleen, pancreas and left side of stomach
Branches of Gastroduodenal artery GDA
Right gastroepiploic and pancreatic duodenal (via superior-anterior/sup-post
)
-Courses inferiorly supplying right side of stomach via right gastroepiploic
-
Cystic artery branches from____ and feeds the___
Right hepatic artery,gallbladder.
Renal arteries course ____ to renal veins
Posterior.Right renal posterior to IVC
Inferior mesentery artery supplies blood to
Transverse colon,descending colon and rectum
Proximal size of aorta
2.5
Distal size of aorta
0.8-1.0
Released from kidney in event of bleeding
Renin (acts on angiotensin II)
Angiotensin II
Initiates vasoconstriction (narrowing of blood vessels)
Vasoconstriction maintains
Blood pressure
hematocrit
% of Reb blood cells to whole blood, used to measure possible bleeding from arterial system
interventional radiologist
identify, diagnose and endovascular treatment of vascular disorders
Duplex Doppler Sonography
indicates flow patterns within the vasculature.
Color doppler
facilitates location of vessels for duplex sonography .
presence and location of flow in a structure.
Plethysmography
-evaluate vascular disease of the extremities.
-Assist in deterring presence and extent of occlusive aortic disease.
Arteriography
Considered gold standard when aorta/its branches are involuted
