Ch.5 Photosynthesis (part 1) Flashcards
What is the main source of energy for all living organisms?
Sun (sunlight)
Compare the metabolism of autotrophs and heterotrophs.
Autotrophs use energy
from sunlight TO MAKE organic compounds, while Heterotrophs get energy from FOOD instead of directly making their own energy.
What is the main purpose of cellular respiration?
- to release usable energy in order to power the cell, making ATP.
What is the role of oxygen in cellular respiration?
It is the final electron acceptor of the electron transport chain, responsible for the progress of forming ATP.
What are the products of photosynthesis?
1 glucose molecule and 6 atmospheric oxygen.
What is the role of chlorophyll in photosynthesis?
Its job is to absorb mostly blue/red lights, reflecting green/yellow lights.
What are two stages of photosynthesis called?
- Light-dependent reactions
(1. Absorption of Light Energy
2. Conversion of Light Energy)
What are the stages of cellular respiration and what are the products?
- Glycolisis = 2 pyruvate, 2 ATP, 2 NADH
- Krebs Cycle = 2 ATP, 6 NADH, 2 FADH2
- Electron Transport Chains = 6 CO2, 6H2O, 38 ATP
