Lifting and Moving Patients
When lifting a Patient carrying device, it is best to us a ____ number of people

Drags: Clothes drag, incline drag, shoulder drag, foot drag, Firefighters drag, and blanket drag
Carrying: One rescuer assist, Cradle carry, pack strap carry, Firefighters carry, and Piggyback carry
Assisted carries: Two rescuer assist, and Firefighters carry with assist
When should urgent moves be used
When the patient must be moved quickly for treatment of an immediate life threatening condition. Urgent moves are performed with precaution to spinal injuries
What are urgent moves
Use of a long spine board or backboard, and the rapid extraction from a vehicle
When are non-urgent moves utilized
When there is no threat to life
What are the different types of patient carrying devices
Wheeled Stretcher, Power stretcher, Portable stretcher, Basket stretcher, Scoop stretcher, Flexible stretcher and the stair chair
What are Bariatric stretchers and what are they used for
Bariatric stretchers are constructed to transport obese patients. some are rated for 800 lbs
There are two types of spine boards
Short and long. Wooden boards are no longer recommended
What should you do first when dealing with a patient with a suspected head / spinal injury
Immobilize their spine before moving
When a patient has no suspected spinal injuries, what methods of lifting can be utilized to move the patient onto a stretcher or chair
Extremity lift
direct ground lift
Draw-sheet method
direct carry
Unresponsive patients with no spinal injuries should be placed in what position
The recovery position (To the side to allow drainage from the mouth)
