Ch.3 Flashcards
Core print
used to support and secure the Core in the mold cavity
Core
Used for inserting the metal when the internal component can be casted normall.
Macthplate Pattern
Pattern where metal is casted on a single plate that is attached to mold. it is attached on the cope and drage side on the same plate which is attached
Cope and Drag Pattern
where the metal is inserted onto two separate ends or attachment pins. when molding is complete that is when they are combined
Investment casting
casting that involves using a pattern made out of wax. pattern is made in the exact shape the item will be casted and out of a ceramic coating.
Draft
Used to better facilate pickign up the metal.
what material will the chaplet be made out of
whatever material the casting is made out of as it will be part of the final cast product.
true or false a two-piece pattern is a loose pattern.
True.
Where should the parting line be ideally?
straight and between the two parts drag and cope.
How does the design of the gating system affect the metal size wide?
a short gate system can affect the metal by shrinking it as the metal can start to solidify before it reaches the mold part.
What are pros and cons of wood as pattern material
pros. low cost and low eight. cons low abrasive resitnace wears out pretty quickly so can’t be used for a long time.
Metal pro’s and cons
Pros: high durability and good wear resitance, and good surface finishcons: often high weight.
what metal is most commonly used for pattern making
Alumninum
Plastic pros and cons for pattern making
pros: easy to mahcine and does not shrink as much, produces precise dimensional tolerances. cons: does not work well with heat.
