A

early in fetal development: in yolk sac

later in fetal development: shifts to the fetal liver

birth-throughout life: bone marrow

Where are HSCs usually found in bone marrow?

A
  • usually in protective niche, where they’re quiescent

- but can be stimulated to divide or leave the marrow, enter circulation (under conditions of hematopoietic stress)
