Ch19 Pt2 AB Flashcards
Type 2x
Fast twitch, high force, fast fatigue
Fast glycolytic
Type 2a
Fast twitch, moderate force, fatigue resistant
Fast oxidative glycolytic
Type 1
Slow twitch, low tension, fatigue resistant
AEROBIC
Slow oxidative
Type 1
Slow twitch, low tension, fatigue resistant
AEROBIC
Henneman’s size principle (small to large)
ST> FT
Low > high activation
Type 2 fibers are innervates by larger neurons and take more to recruit than:
More to recruit than their slow fibre counterparts
What type of fibers are usually recruited first?
Slow Twitch
-take less to recruit
EMG
Electromyography
-measure electrical signals created by muscle
-surface electrodes and needle electrodes
Allows assessment of which muscles are activated, amount of muscles activated, and which are under strain during what situations
EMG types (3)
Raw: the actual electrical signal
Rectified: “negative” flipped to “positive”
Integrated: area under the rectified EMG
MAV
Mean absolute value: used to determine the amplitude of the signal
MDF
Median frequency: used to determine the frequency of firing
What would happen to median frequency with repeated muscle contractions?
Decrease because the muscle would fatigue as they continue to contract, fast twitch are fatiguiging, not firing, not inactive compared to the slow twitch
