Ch12 B cell activation Flashcards
State the two ways B cells may be activated and the subtypes of the second way
Thymus dependant, requires Th cells, majority
Thymus independant which induces activation via PRRs
- two types (I)- lipopolysacs
(II)- repetitive molecules like flagella
Contrast 3 differences between primary and secondary humoral response
4-7 days vs 1-3 days response
response is magnified X1000 in secondary
antibodies have better affinity
what are the 2 invivo sites for induction of humoral response?
spleen for blood born antigens, lymph nodes for tissues
What happens in the following primary follicle sections? Paracortex, Medulla
Paracortex where initial T/B cell activation occurs, medulla is where plasma cell secretion of antibody occurs
When do germinal centers arise and what are the 3 events that occur in them
arise within 7-10 days,
- affinity maturation
- class switching
- formation of plasma and memory B cells
