Binocular rivalry
The alteration between seeing the pattern in the left retina and the pattern in the right retina.
MRI
Machine that checks brain activity
Vegetative state
People who respond to some stimuli but show no purposeful actions.
Coma
Can be caused by trauma or damage to the brain and can make the person feel nothing including painful stimuli
Brain death
The brain shows no response and no activity to any stimuli, painful or non painful
Phi effect
Illusions of light moving between two locations back and forth
Spatial neglect
Tendency to ignore the left side of anything and everything
Déjà vu experience
Sense that an event is uncannily familiar
Readiness potential
The increased motor cortex activity prior to the start of the movement
Circadian rhythm
A rhythm of activity and inactivity lasting for a day
Jet lag
When your internal clock is out of whack from travel
Insomnia
Not enough sleep for a person to feel rested for the next day
Narcolepsy
Sudden attacks of extreme sleepiness in the middle of the day
Night terror
To awaken heart pounding and racing as well as screaming. Sometimes involving throwing arms around and pounding walls.

During this stage the sleeping persons eyes move back and forth and experience dreams
