Serology
Study of fluid components in
the blood, especially
antibodies

* Frozen at –20°C or below
For certain tests, complement may need to be inactivated:
* Heat sample to 56°C for 30 minutes
Volumetric
deliver only one volume
Graduated
marked to allow for varying
amounts - Serological/Blowout
Serial dilutions
determine the
titer, or strength, of an antibody
Diagnostic Sensitivity
Proportion of people who with disease and positive test (true positive/true positive+false negative)100
Diagnostic Specificity
Proportion of people with no disease and negative test (true negative/true negative+false positive)100
Positive Predictive Value
Probability a positive test with disease (true positives/true positives+false positive)100
Negative Predictive Value
probability a negative test with no disease (true negative/true negative+false negative)100
