Ch. 9 - Functional programming Flashcards
During the supine draw-in exercise (centering), what joints should there be NO movement of? And what do movement of these joints indicate?
During drawing in, there should be NO movement of the pelvis, low back, or rib cage.
If they move, that indicates = activation of rectus abdominis AND an inability to activate the TVA in an ISOLATED manner!
What is the purpose of the supine drawing in maneuver? How frequently should a client perform this exercise?
To re-educate faulty neural pathways. To regain the reflexive function of the core musculature.
Perform as frequently as possible for 1-2 weeks.
Quadruped drawing in with extremity movement, what happens if you extend the limbs too far?
Loss of lumbar stability.
Purpose of quadruped drawing-in with extremity movement exercise?
Re-establish core control with minimal loading on the spine during hip and shoulder movements.
