Ch. 8 - Physiological assessments Flashcards
During a GXT (graded exercise test), what should be monitored and how often?
Heart rate: Continuously and last 15 seconds of each minute.
BP: last 45 seconds of each stage.
RPE: last 5 seconds of each minute.
Signs and symptoms: continuously, both observed and subjective comments.
BMI formula?
weight(kg)/Height^2 (meters)
OR
weight(lb)/height^2 (inches) * 703
BMI categories?
Underweight = < 18.5
Normal = 18.5-24.9
Overweight = 25.0-29.9
Obese = 30.0+
Waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) - what are they and what are the associated risk levels?
Men: <0.85 Excellent 0.85-0.89 Good 0.90-0.95 Average >0.95 At Risk
Women: <0.75 Excellent 0.75-0.79 Good 0.80-0.86 Average >0.86 At Risk
Waist circumference in men - for every 1” increase, what are the associated health risks?
- BP increases by 10%
- Cholesterol increases by 8%.
- HDL decreases by 15%.
- Triglycerides increase by 18%.
- Metabolic syndrome increases by 18%.
What are the waist circumference risk categories’ measurements in both men and women?
Men: <31.5 in - Very low risk 31.5-39.0 in - Low risk 39.5-47.0 in - High risk >47.0 in - Very high risk
Women: <27.5 in - Very low risk 37.5-35.0 in - Low risk 35.5-43.0 in - High risk >43.5 in - Very high risk
What is cardiovascular drift?
Increase in HR when the workload has NOT been altered.
What field tests are used to assess anaerobic power?
Standing long jump test and vertical jump test.
