What are the 5 stages of behavioral change according to the Transtheoretical model and what do they each mean?

  1. Precontemplation = Sedentary. Not even considering an exercise program.
  2. Contemplation = Still sedentary. Considers an exercise program, but not yet ready to make a change.
  3. Preparation = Some physical activity, but nothing consistent.
  4. Action = Regular physical activity, less than 6 months.
  5. Maintenance = Regular physical activity, longer than 6 months.
