a dynamic process reflected in the tendency for a group to stick together and remain united in pursuit of its goals and objectives

How does team satisfaction correlate with cohesion?
increase in cohesion is related to an increase in satisfaction
How does Conformity relate to Cohesion?
the more cohesive a group, the greater the conformity
How does Stability relate to cohesion?
Teams higher in cohesion can better resist disruption/teams staying together longer tend to be more cohesive.
How does Group Goals relate to cohesion?
Group goals enhance feelings of cohesion
How does adherence to exercise relate to cohesion?
higher cohesion in exercise class is associated with fewer dropouts and fewer late arrivals (like partners, small groups)
What are some strategies for leaders/coaches to build team cohesion?
- Explain individual roles in team success
- Develop pride within subunits
- Avoid information of social cliques
- set challenging team goals
- Encourage team identity
- Avoid excessive turnover
- Conduct periodic team meetings to resolve conflict
- Stay in touch with team climate
