17
Q

What is the Basic Principle for individual and team performance?

A

the individual abilities of team members are often not good predictors of how a team will perform

18
Q

Define Steiner’s Model.

A
    • Shows that actual productivity is potential productivity - losses attributable to faulty group processes
    • Also shows that loses result from motivation and coordination (timing, movement patterns)
19
Q

Describe the Ringelmann Effect.

A

This the phenomenon by which individual performance decreases as the number of people in the group increases.

20
Q

Describe Social Loafing.

A

An individual within a group/team putting far less than 100% effort in due to motivation losses

21
Q

How can you reduce or eliminate social loafing?

A
  • Increase Identifiability (ex: videotape to make sure they are doing their responsibilities for their role)
  • Determine specific situations where social loafing occurs (like example above)
