- Decision to send a process
- Encoding of the message by the sender (translating thoughts to the message)
- Channel through which the message is transmitted to receiver (message given verbal or nonverbal)
- Decoding of the message by the receiver (interpreting the message)
- Internal response by the receiver to message (getting mad or feeling relieved)
What are the guidelines for sending verbal messages?
- Be direct
- Be clear and consistent
- Own the message
- Separate fact from opinion
- Be consistent with nonverbal messages
- Look for feedback that your message is accurately interpreted
- Inform others of what you want them to do instead of what not to do
