Ch 8: Contraction Types Flashcards
Types of contractions
Isotonic
Isokinetic
What’s isotonic contraction?
3 types of movements
- concentric
- eccentric
- isometric
What is isokinetic movement?
Same speed of movement no matter how much effort is used
Differentiate between the 3 different iso-movements
Isokinetic: same speed regardless of effort
Isotonic: three different types of movements
Isometric: static contraction
Differentiate between three different isotonic contractions.
Concentric: shortening contraction
Eccentric: lengthening contraction
Isometric: static contraction
This muscle is the primary mover
Agonist
These muscles are the synergists
Stabilizers and neutralizers
These muscles oppose the primary movers
Antagonists
These muscles all create the same movement
Cocontractors
These muscles contract to keep something from moving (i.e. scapula)
Stabilizers
When two or muscles contract and allow only a third movement
Neutralizers
These muscles cross two articulations
Biarticular
