Ch 11: Torque and Levers Flashcards
Rotational force definition
when force is not in line with the center of gravity
Torque equation
Torque = Magnitude of force x Length of the moment arm
What is a moment arm?
Perpendicular distance from the line of force to the axes of ratation
What is torque summation?
no movement, linear movement, or rotary movement
What are the anatomical levers?
Muscle = applied force Resistance = load, or force to overcome Joint = fulcrum, or axis of rotation
1st class lever
joint is between resistance and muscle
ex: back of neck muscles holding face from falling forward
2nd class levers
resistance is between the muscle and joint.
ex: ball of foot plants on ground while gastrocnemius pulls body weight upward
3rd class levers
muscle is in between the joint and the resistance.
ex: biceps pull from between the elbow an resistance
