Breast Cancer
Begins as a single transformed cell that grows and multiplies in the epithelial cells lining one or more mammary ducts or nobles
Ductal Carcinoma
Cancer grows into surrounding breast tissue
Metastasis spreads to blood/lymph nodes = brain, bone, liver and lung
Inflammatory Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer Clinical Manifestations
Irregular, poorly defined mass
Dimpling of skin d/t fibrosis (late)
Edema thickening w/ breast skin turns orange (late)
Prevention of Breast Cancer
Mammogram: 1-2 yr >55 yr old; annual if 45 yr old
Breast Self-Examination: monthly
Clinical Breast Exam: every 3 years after age 40

Decreasing risk of metastasis
Education and treatment is prevention or stopping spread of tumor cells
