Q

Allergies and asthma

A

Mast cells produce chemicals that cause inflammation. Mast cells release histamines. Leukotrienes (asthma) cause the muscle contraction in the airway making it hard to breath.

Q

Mucous membranes

A

Line body surfaces exposed to the outer environment. They produce mucus for protection and lubrication.

16
Q

Synovial membranes

A

Found lining joint cavities between bones. Produce watery fluid to cushion and lubricate the joints.

17
Q

Benign tumor

A

Rumors that do not spread. Surrounded by a capsule. Cells are differentiated.

18
Q

Malignant tumor

A

Cancer. Cells are not differentiated. Not normal. Metastasis.

19
Q

Cancer causes…

A

Cancer is caused by mutations in genes that control cell division. Risk factors include genetics, carcinogens, aging, environment.

20
Q

Four cardinal signs go inflammation ESSAY!!!

A

Redness: from increased blood flow
Heat: from increased blood flow and metabolic rate
Swelling: vessels become leaky and fluid fills spaces between cells
Pain: swelling puts pressure on pain receptors

21
Q

Histology

A

The study of tissues
