Ch 6 Planning Flashcards
Planning should include a review of these items
NOTAMs,, Wx for route and arrival location, TOLD, All necessary Pubs, Flight plan (w/ time, fuel, reserve and diverts)
Where do you get NOTAMs from
U.S. NOTAM System (USNS) via the DoD Internet NOTAM Distribution System (DINS)
Where are abbreviations for NOTAMs explained
in the FIH
Wx sources
Briefed by military weather and form DD 175-1 or wx squadron for area or FSS wx brief
Cold Wx altimeter error
4 feet per thousand feet for each degree Celsius of difference
Temps for Cold Wx altimeter adjustments
- below 0 C add to DA/ MDA/ FAF (unless in mountains then add to all)
- below -30 C add to all altitude on plate
Minimum Altitudes
- MEA (enroute altitude)
- MOCA (Obstacle clearance)
- MRA (reception Altitude)
- MCA (crossing altitude)
Aircraft categories
A, B, C, D, E
A/C A speeds
less than 91 Knots

TORA
TAKE-OFF RUN AVAILABLE-The length of runway declared available and suitable for the ground run of an airplane take-off
TODA
TAKE-OFF DISTANCE AVAILABLE-The length of the takeoff run plus the length of the clearway, if provided (not used by USAF)
ASDA
ACCELERATE-STOP DISTANCE AVAILABLE–The runway plus stopway length declared available and suitable for the acceleration and deceleration of an airplane aborting a takeoff. (A stopway is comparable to a US Military ―overrun‖; it is paved and weight-bearing).
LDA
LANDING DISTANCE AVAILABLE-The length of runway which is declared available and suitable for the ground run of an airplane landing
Reviewing IAP
1) NAVAIDs Frequencies
2) Altitude Min
3) Step-Down Altitudes
4) Radar Mins
5) Airport sketch
Operating Hours of airfield can be found
IFR Supplement
Altimeter tolerance
75 Feet or less
Heading Tolerance
5 degrees within known heading
checking the VOR/TACAN at a designated ground checkpoint tolerance
CDI +- 4 degrees and DME 1/2 mile or 3%
Communication at Uncontrolled Airports
Inbounds should report altitude, aircraft type, and location relative to the airport; should indicate whether landing or over flight; and report locations
Locations to report position at uncontrolled airfields
When departing the final approach fix inbound, established on the final approach segment or immediately upon being released by ATC,Upon completion or termination of the approach, Upon completion or termination of the approach, exiting the active runway
When self-announcing your position, insure you use the following format
“airport” traffic, call sign, aircraft type, location, intentions, “airport” all in easy to understand terms
