Ch. 5. Human Anatomy and Physiology Flashcards
What are the three planes that anatomists divide the body into?
The sagittal (vertical), the coronal (frontal), and the transverse (horizontal) planes
How does the sagittal plane divide the body?
The sagittal plane divides the body into left and right parts by an imaginary line running vertically down the center of the body.
How does the coronal plane divide the body?
The coronal plane (sometimes referred to as the frontal plane) divides the body into the anterior (front) or ventral half of the body and the posterior (back) or dorsal half of the body.
How does the transverse plane divide the body?
The transverse plane divides the body horizontally into upper and lower portions.
What does midsagittal refer to?
Midsagittal refers to the plane that divides the body or an organ into right and left halves.
