Ch. 16. Lymph Massage Flashcards
Which vessels transport lymph into lymph nodes?
afferent vessels
What is lymph massage also called?
lymph drainage massage, lymphatic massage
What is lymph massage?
A system of light circular strokes at a particular speed and rhythm, following the direction of the lymph pathways, used to move fluid out of edematous tissues into the lymph system.
What are lymph trunks?
Large lymph vessels that conduct lymph toward the lymph ducts
What is the angulus venosus (venous angle)?
The juncture of the jugular and subclavian veins.
What is primary lymphedema disease?
An abnormal accumulation of tissue fluid due to malformation of blood vessels and/or lymph vessels.
What do efferent vessels do?
Transport fluid out of lymph nodes toward the lymph trunks and ducts.
What is secondary lymphedema disease?
An abnormal accumulation of tissue fluid due to obstruction.
What is the subclavian vein?
One of the veins that makes up the venous angle or angulus venosus.
What are the smallest lymph vessels?
The initial lymph vessels.
What are the initial lymph vessels capable of?
They are permeable and capable of absorbing fluid and proteins from tissues.
Name the veins in the angulus venosus.
The subclavian vein and the jugular vein.
Which are the largest lymph vessels?
The lymph ducts.
What do the lymph ducts do?
They connect to the venous system at the venous angle, returning lymph fluid to the heart.
What are the lacteals?
They are lymph vessels that absorb emulsified dietary fat from the small intestines.
