Q

steps in tissue repair; inflammation

A

a. cardinal signs
Redness, Heat, Swelling, Pain, immobilization
b, steps in inflammatory response
1. inflammatory chemicals released by damaged cells
-dilation of blood cells-increases the blood flow area (redness and heat)
-chemicals trigger pain receptors (pain)
2. Capillaries become leaky
-exudate leaks out of capillaries into injured areas
-swelling and pain=immobilizes the area
3. exudate contains WBC, fluid and plasma proteins
-proteins facilitate healing
-WBCs attack invaders
4. clotting occurs, scab forms

Q

step 2; organization and restored blood supply

A
  1. clot replaced by granulation tissue
    - capillaries grow in from near by
  2. epithelium regenerates
  3. fibroblasts produce collagen fiber
  4. debris phagocytized

Q

step 3; regeneration and fibrosis

A
  1. scab detaches
  2. fibrous tissue matures, epithelium thickens, takes on mature characteristics
  3. results in fully regenerated epithelium with underlying scar tissue
