define corrosion
oxidation of a metal in the presence of air to form the metal oxide
What does water vapour act as during corrosion
acts as electrolyte (conducts electric current) for the transfer of the electrons from the metal to oxygen
define passivating metal
metal that forms an impervious oxide layer (does not allow particular substances to pass through) on its surface, prevents further corrosion
