Ch 3/4 Flashcards
6 levels of ecological organization
Biosphere, Biome, Ecosystem, Community, Population, Organism
Biotic vs Abiotic factors
Biotic: living components of an environment that affect organisms (Food, predators, shelter)
Abiotic: nonliving components of of an ecosystem (Temp, pH, precipitation, sun)
Autotrophs vs Heterotrophs
Autotrophs: Get energy from non-living sources (primary producers)
Heterotrophs: Get energy from other living sources (consumers)
Trophic levels
organisms position in the food chain
primary producers, primary consumers, secondary consumers, tertiary consumers, quaternary consumers
Food webs vs Food chains
Food web: shows all possible feeding relationships
Food chain: diagram that shows pathway of energy transfer
Energy pyramids
shows amount of energy transferred between levels
Carbon cycle
Photosynthesis, cell respiration, decomposition, fossil fuels, combustion
