Q

what is mega

A

17
Q

what is density? what is the units? what is the conversion of both units?

A

density is mass over volume. the units are usually g/cm^3 or Kg/cm^3. you can convert between these two units by dividing by 1000 (kg to g) or multiplying by 1000 (g to kg)

18
Q

what is empirical formula

A

smallest ratio of atoms

19
Q

molar mass is what unit?

A

grams on molecular weight

20
Q

what are oxidative numbers/states

A

they are meant to indicate how the atoms “ownership” of its ve- change when it forms a compound

21
Q

what are the first three rules of oxidation states?

A
  1. OS of any element by itself is 0
  2. the sum of OS must be 0 if its not an ion
  3. group one metals have +1 OS, group two metals have +2 OS
22
Q

what are the last four rules of oxidation states?

A
  1. fluorine has -1 OS
  2. H has +1 OS when bound to something more EN but has -1 OS with an atom less EN. 0 when bounded with oxygen
  3. oxygen has -2 OS
  4. halogens has -1 OS
23
Q

what is important to note when finding OS

A

the sum of OS must be equal to the number of atoms present in compound unless its an ion

24
Q

find OS of NO3- and HNO2

A

NO3- has 3 O=-6 and one N=5 making overall OS=-1
HNO2 has 1 H=+1 (because N is more EN) , 1 N=+3, and 2 O= -4

25
Q

what is an angstrom? what is an order of magnitude?

A

angstrom is ten to the -10th power. order of magnitude is a factor of ten.

26
Q

formula of ammonium? hydronium?

A

ammonium= NH4+
hydronium=H3O+

27
Q

formula of acetate? bicarbonate?

A

acetate= CH3CO2-
bicarbonate= HCO3-

28
Q

what is important to note about a limiting reagent

A

its the molecule that gets consumed first and its always a reactant

29
Q

formula of nitrate? nitrite?

A

nitrate= NO3-
nitrite=NO2-

30
Q

formula of Perchlorate? Cyanide?

A

Perchlorate= ClO4-
Cyanide= CN-

31
Q

formula for sulfate? sulfite?

A

sulfate= SO4^2-
Sulfite= SO3^2-

32
Q

formula for carbonate? phosphate?

A

carbonate= CO3^2-
phosphate= PO4^3-
